Year Report 2025: Subsidised Somatic Therapy Sessions

Supported by Fondazione We Care

Period: January 2025 onward

With the generous support of Fondazione We Care, I was able to offer one-to-one Somatic Therapy sessions among the herd at Ibiza Horse Valley to five teenagers in 2025. These sessions provided a safe, relational, and steady environment where teenagers could reconnect with their bodies, emotions, and social confidence, guided by the natural, calming presence of the herd.

It was a true honour to be able to offer these sessions to the teenagers in need. The sessions fostered trust, self-awareness, and meaningful connections with the horses, serving as a foundation for greater openness and growth.

Key Results in Numbers

  • Participants: 5 teenagers (aged 11, 12, 12, 14, and 15).

  • Sessions Delivered: 64 total sessions held in 2025.

  • Format: Individual sessions held directly among the herd.

Observations & Impact

In every client, noticeable shifts occurred during their process. Somatic Therapy works slowly and subtly, building over each session to re-establish safety in the body. Among the herd, safety is felt much faster. Compared to sessions with children outside the herd, teenagers here open up more easily and feel more comfortable.

Over the year, we observed significant progress:

  • A growing awareness of their own bodies.

  • An increased ability to notice and name sensations, feelings, and emotions.

  • More confidence in social situations.

  • A deeper understanding of themselves and their reactions.

  • A sense of feeling seen and understood.

  • A deep connection to the herd at Ibiza Horse Valley.

Many teenagers formed strong bonds with specific horses. For some, trusting the horses came more easily than trusting people. That trust became a starting point, a safe space where they could experience relationship and presence without pressure.”

Learnings from the Field

1. Timing & Flexibility

All sessions were held among the herd. While initially scheduled for one hour, sessions often extended to 1.5–2 hours. This proved essential, particularly for neurodivergent teenagers (e.g., those with ADHD), as they needed more time to fully settle and engage deeply.

2. The Importance of Consistency

Most teenagers attended weekly, which proved especially important for establishing rhythm and trust. We observed that long gaps between sessions slowed progress, highlighting the importance of regular attendance.

3. Environment

One clear observation is how much easier it is for teenagers to open up in this natural environment surrounded by the herd than in a closed room. The horses’ stories also helped teenagers feel comfortable sharing their own experiences.

Ongoing Need & Future Vision

Demand for the subsidised sessions remains high, and I am still offering sessions to two of the clients to complete their journey.

The success of this project has inspired Ibiza Horse Valley to develop additional projects that build on the therapeutic power of the herd. I am also in the process of building pathways that will allow this work to become accessible to children and teenagers through local foundations on the island.

A Note of Gratitude

I am deeply grateful to Fondazione We Care for the trust placed in my work among the herd. Together, we were able to support teenagers in need and create a space where they could experience safety and healing in the presence of the horses.

It has been an honour to offer this work, to witness real change, and to hold a sense of safety for teenagers who, for many of them, had not experienced this before.
